Until a week ago we had a 30m-plus eucalyptus behind our house. It was a gorgeous thing, obviously much older than I, and I was very emotionally attached to it.

A 43-year-old man who gave a 12-year-old girl synthetic cannabis and put his hand up her skirt when she passed out avoided being sent to jail today. The judge hit out against legal highs during sentencing, they were filling up her courtroom and causing widespread social problems. Long-time cannabis and synthetic user Kirk Daniel Rutledge, 42, had smoked the then-legal Tai High before going to Woodham Park in Dallington, Christchurch, last year.
