Ambulances get new base for quicker response

Geoff Sloan

Temporary ambulance bases are being set up throughout Christchurch in a bid to respond quicker to emergencies.

The move comes after concerns that roadworks because of the earthquakes and ignorant drivers are holding up ambulances getting to 111 calls.

In a bid to get drivers to pull over for ambulances, St John has launched a radio avertising campaign pleading for drivers to be more considerate.

The first temporary ambulance base opened yesterday at the Nga Hau E Wha Marae in Pages Rd, Aranui.

It is hoped that it will give quicker access across the eastern suburbs than the previous base at the New Brighton police station.
