There's only one more sleep until Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park and the members of a pop-music loving act are rearing to show Christchurch a good time.

Christchurch Pops Choir formed in June 2011 and join the cast of the annual festive musical event for the first time in Hagley Park tomorrow night.

The group specialises in singing contemporary and 'popular' music, including jazz, rock, musical theatre and gospel.

Artistic director Luke Di Somma, 28, said the choir has been working really hard and can't wait to perform.

"I'm really excited about it... everyone's champing at the bit for Saturday," he said.

The former Cashmere High School student said learning 18 songs for the show has been pretty full on.

"18 months ago I didn't think we'd be in something as massive as Christmas in the Park," he said.

"It's a really exciting project to be part of."

Other talent in this year's 200 strong cast of singers, dancers and performers includes pop stars Dane Rumble and Drew Neemia, the magical Motown Experience, Taiko drummers and aerial artist Skye Broberg.

They'll join familiar faces Jackie Clarke and Frankie Stevens - with five males from the Christchurch Pops Choir singing backing vocals on Stevens' rendition of yuletide classic I'm Dreaming of A White Christmas.

Mr Di Somma said the event signals the beginning of the festive season.

"It's the first time we really say 'Hey, Christmas is coming' and it's a nice reminder that we're getting to the end of the year," he said.

"It's a great opportunity to have a really good, fun night out."

Mr Di Somma said the event was part of the city getting back on its feet post-earthquakes.
