A slice of QEII Park has ended up in the backyard of New Brighton's Creative Quarter.

Residents Denise and Jason Mill of Pivnice Architecture and Graphics made sure a piece of the now demolished QEII stayed in the eastern suburbs after rescuing the practice running track from the rubbish heap.

"We were doing some pro bono work in the gap filler project the Palett Pavilion and we were talking to some Smith Cranes boys. They gave us the heads up that they were working on QEII and said they had some of the running track," said Mr Mill.

"It was a case of right place right time - we only had a window of a week where it would end up in the rubbish,'' he said.
