Death confirmed in Kaiapoi crash
Christchurch police have confirmed that a 70-year-old Christchurch man has died today in a car crash in Kaiapoi.
The man was the driver and sole occupant of a car which left the road and hit a house in Sewell St, at approximately 12.20pm.
No other vehicle was involved. The house, which suffered some damage, is in a red-zoned area and was vacant.
Police say that although it will be for the coroner to determine the cause of death, there are indications that a medical event may have been involved.
The identity of the deceased is expected to be released later this afternoon.
