In 2009 the bodies of Rebecca Somerville and her neighbour Tisha Lowry were found under the floorboards of Jason Somerville's flat on the corner of Hampshire St and Wainoni Rd.
A city council spokeswoman said yesterday a process for what the site would be used for would begin sometime in the New Year.
Burwood-Pegasus Community Board member Tim Baker has said previously one option was it could be used for a children's playground. However, others in the community have slammed the idea and want it turned into a park.
