Hunt continues for owner of special medal
A Richmond man is seeking the relatives of a dux recipient after digging up a medallion while gardening.
Alan Williamson was landscaping his rental property in Harvey Tce when he caught a glimpse of the shiny treasure.
On closer inspection, Mr Williamson saw that it was a dux medallion awarded to Ronald Sharp of Christchurch West Primary School in 1922.
"I have searched for about a year now to try and find the relatives of Ronald Sharp so I can return the medallion to them, but I've hit a bit of a wall,'' said Mr Williamson.
"All I know so far, thanks to the research of my friend Beverly Evans, is that Ronald went on to Shirley Boys' High and that he was born in Christchurch and may have died in 1953 aged 46.
"His father was Percival E Sharp and they used to live on Vicarage Rd in Sockburn in 1908,'' he said.
Mr Williamson said he checked the title of the property at Harvey Tce and the Sharps had never owned the property.
He is hoping someone will recognise the name or the medallion, so he can return it.
