Pair hurt in nasty assault

A nasty assault outside a Riccarton bar left a man and a woman with cuts to their heads and faces.

The altercation which lasted about nine minutes, took place outside The Craic Irish Bar on Riccarton Rd, between 10.45pm and 11.10pm, the Saturday before last.

Constable Paul Wilson said a man attacked a 26-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman.

"Both victims had been at the races during the day.

"They were taken to hospital and received stitches.

"We are unsure at this stage if a weapon was used.

"It was a nasty assault," he said.

There was no description of the offender and Constable Wilson didn't know which direction he went in after he left the bar.

Constable Wilson said police had video footage from the bar and had spoken to bar owners and had a list of 10 witnesses to speak to.

"There were a number of bystanders and patrons in the area at the time of the attack. We would like those people if they haven't already done so to come forward with information," he said.
