Richmond Working Men's Club falls

Geoff Sloan

Contractors have begun  the partial demolition of the Richmond Working Men's Club.

Part of the club that was built in the 1950s and 1970s, which housed the the bar, pool room, squash courts, rifle range, social hall, library and the old restaurant, will come down. It will take 12 weeks.

The club has been closed since August 18 after an engineering report showed structural weaknesses in the building.

Meanwhile, the nearby Richmond Village shopping area has been struck again by earthquake related road works, causing trade to fall by half.
