Eastern suburbs schools have been given a sizable grant to buy digital devices for their pupils.

The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust announced last week a $410,000 grant will be given to the Greater Christchurch Schools Network who will provide equipment, such as iPads, tablets and netbooks, to the most
earthquake-affected areas.

The 11 schools which have been identified by the network are: Aranui Primary, Central New Brighton, St James, Freeville, New Brighton Catholic, Parkview Primary, South New Brighton, North New Brighton, Wainoni, Burwood and Avondale.

With decisions still pending on the future of schools due to the proposed mergers and closure, the digital devices may be
redistributed.

The equipment will be available for use by the children form the first day of term one next year.
