Zoo ducks for cover

Luckily there are no tigers and lions at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve – because someone has apparently been tampering with animal cages at the park.

Police were asked to keep an extra eye on the Hussey Rd, Harewood, area recently after concern that animals were let out of their cages.

When approached by The Star yesterday Willowbank marketing manager Jo Moore declined to comment, or confirm rumours it might have been youths monkeying around.

Meanwhile, Orana Wildlife Park has its beasts safe as in the ark.

“The only issue we’ve had is in the past, boy racers outside our gates,” said spokesman Nathan Hawke.

“The potential thought of lions around would keep people away.”
