Thousands gathered outside the Christchurch City Council offices in Hereford Street to demand "urgent change to restore democracy" after continued issues with the dysfunctional City Council and its controversial chief executive Tony Marryatt

Thousands of Cantabrians and visitors took the opportunity to view colourful displays of all shapes and sizes on offer at the Ellerslie International Flower Show held in Christchurch's North Hagley Park. Show managing director David Mee said many of the plants and flowers displayed at Ellerslie will be put to good use around Christchurch after the show. Hundreds of plants and floral art will make its way to rest homes, charity organisations and community garden projects such as 'Greening the Rubble'
