Large crowds turned out for the first day of The Star Home Show at the CBS Canterbury arena. They were treated to a wide range of exhibitions offering a range of special offers, discounts and prizes, such as a competition to win $8000 worth of insulation, and a heat pump from Green Dog Insulation and Gavin Lowe.

Thousands of Cantabrians and visitors took the opportunity to view colourful displays of all shapes and sizes on offer at the Ellerslie International Flower Show held in Christchurch's North Hagley Park. Show managing director David Mee said many of the plants and flowers displayed at Ellerslie will be put to good use around Christchurch after the show. Hundreds of plants and floral art will make its way to rest homes, charity organisations and community garden projects such as 'Greening the Rubble'
